Our forefathers recognized the importance of education by placing it at the heart of Wyoming's Constitution. That commitment remains just as important today. We must provide schools with the resources they need while ensuring taxpayer dollars are used responsibly and effectively.
Supporting education means supporting the people who make it possible. Wyoming's teachers work hard every day to prepare students for success, and they deserve the tools and support necessary to do their jobs well. At the same time, students should have access to a quality education that equips them with the knowledge and skills they'll need for the future.
In 2026, the Legislature made significant changes to the structure of public education for the first time in many years. These changes increased funding to schools, and funding is necessary to meet the needs of students and teachers, but the siloing of the funding restricts how these dollars are spent. At the same time, the new structure has created disadvantages for extracurricular activities and other programs that play an important role in learning beyond the traditional classroom. I am committed to working to improve the school funding model so it better supports the full spectrum of student needs.
I'll work to strengthen Wyoming's education system while promoting responsible budgeting and local decision-making. Every student should have the opportunity to learn, grow, and build a future right here in Wyoming.
